What is Thoropass?

Short answer

Thoropass, formerly Laika, sells the compliance platform and the audit together. The SOC report is issued by a separate AICPA registered, peer reviewed CPA entity called Thoropass Assurance, which holds its own engagement letter. It also bought Secureframe in 2024, so it now sits behind two products. The model is legitimate and openly marketed. The thing to weigh is coordination convenience against the independence questions worth asking of any platform affiliated audit.

What it is for

01

One vendor, one timeline

Platform work and audit fieldwork are coordinated by the same company, which removes a set of handoffs that normally eat weeks. For a first audit with nobody internally driving the schedule, that is real.

02

A separate legal entity issues the report

Thoropass Assurance is AICPA registered and peer reviewed and holds its own engagement letter. That structure is what makes the model defensible rather than a conflict.

03

Openly marketed, not hidden

The arrangement is on the website rather than buried. That transparency is the difference between this and the arrangements that cause problems.

04

It now stands behind Secureframe too

If you are evaluating Secureframe, you are evaluating a Thoropass owned product, and the same questions apply.

Who it suits

A good fit if

  • You want the platform and the audit from one relationship
  • This is a first audit and coordination is your bottleneck
  • You have no internal project manager for the compliance schedule
  • You are comfortable asking the independence questions and accepting the answers

A poor fit if

  • Your board or a customer expects a fully independent auditor
  • You want to change audit firms without changing platforms
  • You already have an audit relationship worth keeping
  • Independence is a written requirement in your own policies
The questions worth asking any platform affiliated audit

Who holds the engagement letter. Is the audit entity separately registered and peer reviewed. Who reviews the auditor conclusions and when. Can you move to a third party auditor mid contract, and what happens to your evidence if you do. Thoropass answers these openly, which is the point of asking.

Common questions

Is Thoropass the same as Laika?

Yes. Laika rebranded to Thoropass. You will still see the old name in older coverage and in some contracts.

Does Thoropass own Secureframe?

Yes, since 2024. So choosing Secureframe means choosing a platform directed by an audit firm, which is worth knowing before you compare it with the independent platforms.

Is a platform affiliated audit a problem?

Not by itself, and plenty of buyers prefer it. What matters is whether the audit entity is separately registered and peer reviewed, whether it holds its own engagement letter, and whether the arrangement is disclosed. Thoropass clears all three. The arrangements that cause trouble are the undisclosed ones.
